Trip home

HELLLOOOO!!

On Wednesday night, Jett, Krista, Colton and I headed to Dallas for the first leg of our journey. Jett had a conference that weekend and I was headed to Ft. Sumner for my sweet friend Michelle's baby shower! We got into Dallas around 10ih.. Colton did wonderful on the trip. We visited for a bit then hit the sack.

Thursday, Joslyn headed to work for the day planning to fly to Lubbock that night and I would pick her up and we would drive to FS together. Jett borrowed Joslyn's car to head to the hotel. Krista, Colton and I went to Candice's work to have her sign Michelle's gift, since she was not going to be able to make it to the shower. Jett calls just as we are leaving her work telling us to be careful.. snow is on our way. I tell him "we will be fine.. it is just raining right now" DANG IT.. as soon as I hit end on the cell phone, I told Krista, that sounds like sleet.. that continued for about oh half a second then it was almost a white out.. in DALLAS FREAKING TEXAS! WHAT?? I am not driving in Minnesota again am I?? here are a couple of pictures:

There was this prick of a driver in front of us, who kept fish tailing, he would speed up, then almost seemed like intentionally slam on his brakes to make him drive all crazy.. now, I can see if you are on a back road or NOT THE DANG INTERSTATE maybe having some fun, but here I am, driving with my son and my sister and I am not really in the frame of mind to deal with that crap. Luckily, Colton was asleep so he could not hear all of my "sweet, nice" words I was whispering to the other drivers.

In this picture, notice the car off the road and the lights a little further up facing us.. it was bad people, bad!

We saw a flipped RV, a couple of jackknived (is that spelled right) semi trucks.. the semi's were ticking me off b/c we had all started driving in one lane, in the middle of the interstate, going 20.. there were alot of cars doing this and it felt like a safe thing to do.. but the big semi drivers were in a hurry to get by us.. they were ticking me off (Sorry Dad!)

We had plans to meet Kyla in Abilene for lunch, our navigation system (when we started out) that we would get there at 11 45.. we ended up pulling in at 1 45, thankfully Kyla was able to still meet us at Chilis.. man, I miss that girl! We had a nice lunch, she got to meet her sweet cousin Colton.

Once we left Abilene, it was smooth sailing. Jett called and said "hey, this weather has messed up our conference, so it is cancelled. " WOO HOO. Luckily he was able to get on the same flight as Joslyn and they got in about an hour after I had arrived in Lubbock. We picked them up, quick ran to Party City to get some supplies for the shower, then headed to Dar and Davids for the night.

Friday morning, we got up and ran to Walmart, got the rest of the stuff for the shower and headed to FS. I had made a playlist on my IPOD of music from our senior years (97 for me 98 for Jos).. so we had a blast listening and signing to that.. dang we were dorks back then HE HE HE.. (NO COMMENTS PLEASE). We got there and ran to the Lumber Yard to say hey to Joslyn's mom, Mary Claire then met Nana at Freds... had a nice visit, then we went down to Nan's house and started our baking. Since it was a baby shower, we substituted Easter m & m's instead of chocolate chips.. and we made rice crispy treats with the Easter marshmellows. Luckily we realized we needed to seperate the marshmellows instead of throwing them all in, they would have melted into a ball of brown poo colored (which we could have put in diapers.. maybe next time). We ended up making 4 batches of cookies and 4 batches of rice crispy treats. YUMMY. Jett and I took Colton up to Granny and Grandad's and we picked them up and went to visit Cliff and Molly and the kiddo's. Man, they have grown! We got to see Reed's (and Zach has one) championship "3pete" state title football rings.. nice :)

Friday night, Peepaw got to meet Colton! It was great for us, our FS family is so far from us, we really cherish the time we get to spend together, when we get to spend time together:

Saturday was the day of the shower! Joslyn, Jamie, Crystal, Dawn, Ashley, Krista and yes, even Jett, met at the community house to decorate.. we had a blast:

We had a great time, and it was so awesome to see Michelle, she looks amazing!!! Here is a couple pictures of the hostesses (minus Candice).. we did one nice one and then one that is really us.. a bunch of goofs:

After the shower, we cleaned up really quick, then Joslyn, Jett, Krista, Colton and I headed BACK to Lubbock. Nana had baked Dar a birthday cake so we took that along. We got back to Lubbock at 9pm, had the bday cake and sang happy birthday to her, then hit the sack. We woke up Sunday at the butt crack of dawn (even earlier due to daylight savings) and hit the road. In Dallas, we met up with our good buddy Matt and his fiance, Mykeall, at lunch, dropped Jos off at the airport for her car then continued our trip. It took us a total of 14 hours and amazingly enough, Colton did WONDERFUL. The last half hour, he was DONE, but he did great.

We actually got here the same time Kent and Sarah did!! Yup, they finally got to come and meet Colton.. plus, they have some amazing news as well, they are expecting a baby!!! WOO HOO for that! We are very excited for them. So we went and ate Chili's and came home and crashed.. it was a LONG day for us.

We got up Monday morning and once again, hit the road to New Orleans, we wanted to go to the aquarium. Umm, it is closed on Monday's.. LOSERS. But we had a nice walk around the French Quarter... ate some beniegts, I shoved a spoonful of powdered sugar on Jett.. oh and.. I was very aroused when I saw this hunk o burning love sitting right behind Sarah.. every time I looked at her.. this is what I had to see (thank goodness Kent and Jett were blocking me in.. otherwise, there is no telling what I would do)

Tuesday we took the ferry to New Roads, ate some grub at Satterfields and then headed to Myrtles, the haunted plantation house in St. Francisville. We did not see anything paranormal but I still was creeped out: http://www.myrtlesplantation.com/

We came home, played the WII and then I cooked a Mexcian feast for supper. Wednesday, Kent and Sarah headed home and Colton and I hung out at the house.. poor Jett had to go to work!

All in all, it was a WHIRLWIND of a week. We were exhausted, but the GREAT kind of tired, that is brough on by great company, great friends!!

Hope all of you guys are doing well! Please comment but don't forget to sign your name if you are leaving one annonomously, we don't know who you are if you don't!!

First Tragic Moment as a mommy!

Thursday Colton had his 2 month check up... it was awful. First the doctor comes in and tells me that Colton is doing great.. blah blah then he says, "ok, the nurse will be back in with the shots". She comes in and I put my sweet baby on the table. I kid you not, he looks up at me and grins really big and starts cooing and BAM, she jabs the first needle in. He starts screaming, tears (first time I have seen tears on him)start flowing.. then I realize that she has three more needles. WHY can't they give them all in one?!?! It was so sad.. I was crying, Colton was crying.. the nurse said alot of moms cry.. but it was so sad.. my poor sweet baby.

The next two nights were so bad. He was running a fever, very upset, did not want to be put down, and I did not want to put him down.. I felt bad. Today is going to be better though, he is much happier!

At his two month, he weighs 12 lbs 4 ounces (in the 70th percentile) is 24 inches long (80th percentile) an d his head is 16 inches around (70th). All in all he is right on track.

He is starting to really coo at us and give big grins.. he really enjoys daddy's kisses!

Hope y'all are doing well!

Update on Darla

Happy Wednesday to ya :)

Colton and I headed to Lubbock bright and early last Thursday morning. Colton did great, not a peep on the plane. I was so afraid that I would be the screaming kid lady that I have pretty much complained about every time I fly!! Lucky for me, my son did not scream at all, WHEW!

We landed and had a nice surprise waiting for us, not only did PawPaw David and Nonna come to pick us up, but my sweet little Nana came in for the surgery and she was at the airport as well. It was really great to see her! I was excited for Nan to meet Colton.

We had a nice visit on Thursday night and then came Friday. Dar and David left at the buttcrack of dawn to get her all registered. Nan and I got to the hospital at about 7 30 I guess. Her surgeon was late so we got to go and see her in the holding area. Then time for surgery came.. and we waited and waited and waited. 13 hours later, we finally get to see her. She was in some pain but the real scare is that they found some cartlidge damage when they went in, so she is going to have to decide on another surgery or not.

Another bad thing was it was supposed to be a day surgery, in and out. Well, she could not empty her bladder so she ended up staying for TWO NIGHTS... needless to say, she was an UNHAPPY camper. David was an amazing husband, he took such good care of her, very dedicated and did whatever needed to be done to see to her comfort, not an easy task when she is so dang stubborn and did not take advantage of people waiting on her hand and foot :) She was ready to get out of there PRONTO.

She is home now and doing better. Lots of research is being done on the surgery that they want to do to fix the damaged cartlidge. We will see what they decide.

Aric just fell in love with Colton, he loves that baby so much. What a great uncle!! We were sad that Brit could not make it down but she will meet him hopefully soon!

It was a long trip but I am so glad I got to go and be with Dar during this!! This blog might be a little random but I am exhausted and the baby is crying again... so I best close for now!!

Here are a couple pictures from the trip.

Off to Lubbock

Dear friends

Colton and I will be leaving tomorrow (Thursday) to go be with Darla as she goes through a complete ACL replacement surgery. She is very nervous, so please keep her in your thoughts on Friday.

Jett turns 29 *YIKES* on Friday. I am sad we will not be here for his birthday, but he is very understanding. Kelli is going to make him supper and Krista will bake him some cupcakes:)

I will post some Lubbock pictures when I can!

Trip to Corpus

Dear all,

We had a great trip to Corpus this past weekend. Colton did wonderful in the carseat for 7 1/2 hours down there, he slept the whole time!! We got in LATE Friday night. On Saturday, we got up and went to Sammi's basketball game, which they WON :)

On Sunday, Aunt Mae, Martha and Daniel came from the Valley to meet Colton and to see WaWa. It was a great visit. Dwayne, Staci, Veda and Big D came over also.

We also painted Kelsey's room!! Whew, painting always takes so long. But, it turned out so cute!! And, we had fun!!

We had breakfast early on Monday and then made the trip back home.

It was so good to be around family. I am looking forward to the day that we can spend time with ALL our family without a long trip. We miss the family in Lubbock and New Mexico, Austin and Corpus. . . it is so hard being so far away from everyone. Hopefully one day soon, we can get a little closer!!

Family Visit

Hey all

This past weekend, we had a nice visit with Granny, Grandad and Aunt Darlene, the world travelers (ok, maybe just southwest TX travelers) stopped to see Kyla first, then on to Jim and Lavern, us, then to Adam and finally made it back home safe and sound. While they were here, we revived our love for Canasta.. man I love that game. Granny and Aunt D spoiled Colton rotten, well, Grandad helped on that matter too. Anyways, it was nice to have company and get to show off the baby :)

We are heading to Corpus to introduce Colton to the rest of the Walker bunch. I can't wait and I am sure to post some pictures when we get back.

As for the colic.. it is still here.. bummer. Colton is doing really well in his new bedroom AKA our bathroom. That vent is a lifesaver. I wonder how much it would cost to get one installed in his room.... hmm ha ha.

Well, that is all for now. Not much to report.. just loving my baby!!

Oh sleepless night

It's official.. Colton has Colic.. YUCK!! On Tuesday, he screamed all day. Even when I would pick him up, his face was red, his body was stretched out and he was just having none of my sweet talking to calm him down. I told myself, if he is still doing this tomorrow, I am calling the doctor. Well, Wed rolls around and he is still doing it, so I called and my doctor was out but we made an appt with the guy on call. What a jerk.

Of course, you feel like an idiot when the doctor looks at you and says "well, he is a baby, and that is what babies do, they cry. You have probably over stimulated him, you know, had the TV on too loud, had too many visitors.. you need to not do that". Lucky for him, Colton choose that time to start screaming again so I was worried about him instead of telling the doctor that (A) I don't even like TV so during the day, if it is on, it is on very low and probably on CMT or something like that.. not like I am watching Jerry Springer or anything ugg and (B) I really don't know too many people here, and the people I do know WORK during the day, so we have had NO visitors.. whatever.

When I got home, I googled colic and found some suggestions on how to deal with it, but Kelli's advice was the best.. the vent in the bathroom is our new best friend. He calms down immedieatly when I turn that vent on. So.... (this might get me bad parent points, I don't know" but last night we moved his bassinet into our bathroom and turned on the vent and HALLELUJIAH, we got some sleep. Of course, he still woke up for his feedings, but was in a MUCH better mood.

First Two Weeks

Dear Friends!

Well, we have survived Colton's first week and a half at home. Whew. It was an easy couple of weeks and then again, it was hard to adjust to having this sweet baby depend only on Jett and I (and Krista) to see to his every need.

He is such a happy and content baby. He must get that from his dad!! He is very content to just lay in his little papazon (Thanks Miranda!) and stare around the room. He did have a bit of a tummy ache last night, but after some Mylocone, all was right in his world again.

I will admit, I am not a big fan of getting peed on, that seems to be another favorite passtime of the sweet baby. Every single time I give him a bath, he pees. I have gotten diaper changing down where he does not have time to get me but at bath time, he never fails to "mark his territory". I just have to laugh at him though, when he does that, he is just so funny.

Jett, Krista and I love to just sit and watch his many facial expressions, he cracks us up.

I just can't believe he is HERE and he is OUR BABY!!! I love him so much!!!

Hope this finds you guys doing well!

He is PERFECT!

HEY GUYS!!

We are so excited to let everyone know that Colton has made his appearance!! He is absolutly AMAZING.

I went in for the C section at 4 on Dec. 21st and Colton was born at 4:13! He weighed 6 lbs 15 1/2 ounces and was 20 and 1/2 inches long. Beautiful.

We got to come home on the 23rd. We only had to stay two nights. I was ready .. I am slowly recovering and Colton is adjusting really well to being in his new home.

Mimi Dar and PawPaw David (we have not come up with a different name yet) were able to fly in to be here and also Mee Maw Sherry and PawPaw Roy, Uncle Roy and Aunt Kelsey made it BARELY in time to see us being wheeled out. It was so nice to be surrounded by our loved ones!!

I am trying to adjust to having a new born, so I don't know how often at first I will update this! I might get Krista to get on and let everyone know..

But we just want to say thank you for your thougths and prayers, and for all the well wishes!!

We love you all!

Letter to my baby

To my first born,

WOW, today is the big day. I am very excited to meet you! I just can't believe that after 9 months of it being "you and me Kid" I am about to bring you into this world and share you with everyone.

I have so many promises for you. I promise you unconditional love. As you get older, you will realize what a rare thing this is, but your mommy and daddy will love you unconditionally, no matter what this big, bad world brings, you will always have us in your corner. We have waiting for you, longed for you, prayed for you for so long it seems, and all this time our love for you has just been building and building.

We promise to give you all the tools you need to succeed in life, self confidence, faith in the Lord, morals to do the right thing and the knowledge that failure is not always wrong or a bad thing, we have to fail sometimes in order to learn.

We promise you a safe haven for a home... that when you are in your home, you will be surrounded by love, laughter, support and I am sure a little football!! I promise that your dad and I will use kind words to you and to each other. Yes, we might sometimes argue but we will do so with respect for our home, it is not a battle ground.

Our hopes and dreams for you are so high, we want you to grow up to be a loving, caring individual. We want you to be confident enough to be your own person, to walk the right path with your head held high, even if it is not the path everyone else seems to be walking. We just want your life to be a happy and full filling one.

We love you so very much. I cannot belive that in 12 hours I will be holding you in my arms. It can't get here soon enough.

We love you, child of our hearts!

Fire Alarms, Stairs, Paramedic's OH MY

Ok.. so Friday was a little nuts. Let me back up by saying about three months or so ago, my co workers and I watched this building a block away from us burn to the GROUND in 30 minutes. I am not kidding, from the time we saw a little flame in the window to the whole thing being on the ground was 30 minutes... so I have been a tad bit freaked about working on the 5th floor.

Ok, so Friday afternoon, the fire alarm goes off. Last time the alarm went off, there was no recording. This time, a man's voice came on and said "This buildings alarm has been activated. Please make your way to the nearest exit". . Well, you don't need to tell this girl twice, I beat all my co workers down. I was not RUNNING mind you, but I was certainly hauling butt, you know, to be on the safe side.

We get to the first floor and they tell us "yes, this was just a false alarm" So I say "ok, I am not going to take the stairs back up, I will just wait for the elvators to work again" About this time, I realize I am having a problem catching my breath, which is a no brainer, I get short of breath just walking around the building sometimes, so you can imagine after five flights what I was doing.. then everyone starts getting nervous because I really could NOT catch my breath, I start hyperventilating. I was shaking like a leaf.. it was freaky. The fire men show up for the alarm and end up coming over to take a look at me... umm kind of embarassing but I let them do their thing. When I went to the doctor on Thursday my blood pressure was 110 over 90 and when he took it after the alarm it was 170... yes, I was freaked out. So I finally calmed myself down and went up the elevator to relax for a minute before I went home.. then I started getting cramps.. Karla, my co worker, was like "GET IN THE CAR".. I called my doc and he said that it was braxton hicks and that I just needed to go home and relax, drink lots of water and if they continue, to come on in. They did not continue, so I did not have to go to the hospital.

I must have really got the baby riled up because the little darling spent the whole night kicking and moving, just letting me know "Hey mom, I am alright in here".. haha, it was actually a relief.

I had many calls from co workers, the conversations were the same.. starting off with concern of my health, the baby etc.. after they were assured that I was alright, the lectures began, they were all given with love, but man I heard it. I don't know what possessed me to haul down the stairs, all I can say is, I had the adrenaline pumping and there was no slowing my butt down!!

Other than that.. things are great. On Thursday's appt the doc said my cervix is thinned out ALOT but no dialation... we can see what he says next Thursday, if I make it that long!!

Hope to hear from you guys!

We love you!

14 more days, I can't believe it

I cannot believe that I have been pregnant for 38 weeks! INSANE. I am ready to have this baby though. I am ready to sleep comfortably (when I do get to sleep that is) Walk without waddling, have a glass of wine HA HA.. and of course, I can't wait to meet this baby!

Everyone is ready, kind of on pins and needles. Every day when I leave work, I have to make sure everything is in order, just in case. I have gotten quite used to everyone touching my tummy and guessing if it is a boy or girl (the consensus is BOY, but we will see).

Jett and Krista are really ready to meet the baby as well. As fun as it is to sit and watch my stomach morph into many different shapes, we can't wait to hold and kiss and touch this little one.

We had Jett's Christmas party on Saturday, it was a lot of fun. I actually stayed up until 10! WOW. We won a couple cool gifts, had a nice meal that included chocolate covered strawberries. The highlight though was that they paid for us a room and the next morning we went to IHOP!! I love, love, love IHOP and we never go because it is usually busy and it is all the way in town, so that was a nice way to cap off the weekend!

Grandma is in the hospital again, she was having a lot of pain and they think it might be gout.. I will let you know what they find out!!

I hope that this finds you doing well! We love and miss you and will be emailing once the little one comes!!

WOW

So my friend at work who was due the same day as me had her baby!! She knew she was going to have a C section but she developed pre eclampsia and they took the baby early. He only weighs 4 lbs 9 ounces, so tiny!! Makes me so ready to hold this baby.

The days are getting close.. only 20 more til my due date.. I keep thinking that I am ready but then I wonder, am I really? HA HA

Saturday we listened to Kent's football game on the internet, they did not end up winning but they had a good season and there is always next year! Jeff's team is still in the play offs, so we will hope they take state again this year.

That night we had Krista's crowning as Ms. BRCC. She looked so pretty, kind of freaked me out that she was wearing a wedding dress, but that is something that the committee makes the girls do. Hopefully it will be a LONG WHILE before she puts one of those on again :)

This weekend is busy, we have the parade, Sid's birthday party, and then Jett's Christmas party.. which should all be fun. I am sure I will have pictures up later!

Well, that is all for now! I am feeling good, just ready for the baby to come!

Love to all!
